Not necessarily. Cloudy skies can create beautiful lighting for listing photos. What matters is the type of weather, the media you’ve booked, and how much flexibility you have before your listing goes live.

Can you take listing photos on a cloudy day?
Yes! Your home doesn’t need sunshine to photograph well.
Overcast skies can create soft, even light with fewer harsh shadows, making cloudy days a good opportunity for exterior listing photography.
We can also add blue skies during photo editing. However, editing doesn’t remove the need to capture a clear exterior image in the first place. Heavy rain may mean waiting for a break, and sometimes conditions prevent us from capturing exterior shots that day.
The distinction is simple: clouds alone aren’t a reason to cancel, but heavy rain may require a change of plans.
How rain affects real estate video and drone photography
Photography, video, and drone work have different weather needs. A day that works for listing photos may not work for every part of your media package.
Real estate video
We don’t replace gray skies with blue skies in video. The weather you see is what we capture.
We also need breaks in the rain to keep raindrops off the lens and capture clear exterior footage. If sunshine is important to the look you want, discuss that with us when scheduling so we can plan accordingly.
Drone photography and video
Rain and strong winds can keep the drone grounded, even when other parts of the shoot can move forward.
We fly when conditions are safe. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll discuss how to adjust the plan for your aerial photos or footage.
When should you reschedule a listing shoot?
Some conditions call for more than waiting out a passing shower:
- Persistent heavy rain
- Strong winds or nearby lightning
- Severe weather alerts affecting the shoot
